Winchester gas cylinders have a rounded rear ring. They can sometimes even look like they were hand filed round. It is not known why Winchester wanted this ring rounded but they continued this practice throughout their production. Springfield Armory gas cylinders have a flat rear ring. They can be punch marked on this flat, have numbers, letters or be blank.
